Intelligence is one of the most valued behavioral traits although it is also one of the most un-understood human traits. Thereby, it beconies one of the most neglected traits; neglected by self, neglected by others. Academics rule the roost & with that academic failures & success become a conclusive judgement on one's intelligence. Academics do add knowledge. However, intelligence is not knowledge per say but the use of knowledge.

Musical Intelligence
Music is not for ears! I mean not for ears alone. If you think I am making some revolutionary statement, in my own mind I am only making an evolutionary statement. I am talking about the music that as a potential of creating an understanding that transcends far beyond the engagement of ears. It is a happening that questions, excites & educates on science more than an art. At a mature age we off course tend to develop newer ideas & newer perspectives. That happens mostly over the intellectual tea parties. But I have experienced these phenomena so intensely that I have come to a conclusion tat a cause to persuasively create a scientific sense in people grossly connected to music is well justified.

Ever since the theory of Multiple Intelligence was published, my intuitive thoughts about the gravity of the mechanism called music & its implications to science grew louder. Over last 15-years or so I have tried to get into the origin, process and the product that music is. Through these experiences I have felt the extent of analytical challenges music creates. The capability of musical intelligence to charge vital faculties of brain easily exceeds the comparison with other established sciences like medical science or a forensic science or a nuclear physics in terms of analytical demands. I am happy that musical intelligence has been given a distinguished identity. Since music is a language of subtlety, there exists an explosive possibility of making it an alternative route to major discoveries. That should alarm many a science students to take musical intelligence seriously.

"Melody may fall on deaf ears but shall return to the singer"
Prashant Brahmane’s quote from the book Rule with Intelligence - 2004

In the year 2003 while I was trying to script a chapter on musical intelligence for my book Rule with intelligence, no material content on intelligence called music was available. That offered me an opportunity to become little predictive, create hypothesis, wait for the theories to be built in due course of time. The amount of scope for hypothesizing & consequently theorizing music I found is so much that every new theory would push to the new contour & a new breed of questions & its resolve would begin almost without fail. I suppose that happens in case every emerging science & it is a proof enough that music could now be safely treated on equal terms with other sciences. That is certainly not to take away the artful dimension of music. In fact since music is already accepted as a well known art form, music should now get an identity as a unique field where an intense art meets an intense science.

Music is so easy to engage oneself with & hence by law of proportion intensifying the engagement is easier. By the same measure & for the same reason that music is popular it would also be possible to imbibe a sense of musical intelligence in larger number of people. A musically intelligent society of future would therefore use this music more frequently like software we use these days. The results would have a telling effect on some vital important factors of living such as;

The way we listen
The way we communicate
Our creative exhibits in most mundane act of life
Our ability to create quality & beauty benchmarks
Our understanding of cosmic spheres & regular interaction with it

A student of vocal music would learn to copy the mentors because they have understood the art & they are more than sold over it. A student of musical intelligence would learn not only what he apparently listens but also what he does not get to listen. The unsaid portion of the music is proportionately so large that understanding of the same would enable him to use any song that he listens to as a starting point of a new journey of musical composition. Each of these streams would create a new sea & there is no charge for borrowing from it. Each of such experiences would create a new engagement & give a new title of a musical researcher to the musician. That would certainly enable everyone to be a composer in his own right thus adding more possibilities to music. An average music lover would stay with music much more because of newer spirit of interacting beyond just what you get to listen.

An entry to the world of musical intelligence for young minds promises rich dividends some of which could be envisaged as

Improved sense of character - Faith in the unseen

Higher achievement motivation - Highlighting the power of persuasion

Explosive sense of communication - Using brush strokes to paint an everlasting impression

Extreme analytical sense - Analysis of hard data as well as soft data

Passion for quality - Demands of continuous refinement

I believe all good things would find their way to our mind. The more we taste the more they will be needed & more will come. May we say success succeeds everything?
